Lab summary

The following is a summary of the SCALE-UP ideas and guidance for labs that I found in the article.

Goal for scale up to design and conduct experiments and analyze and interpret data

Tangibles – from short pieces to small experiments – set a problem for them to solve

Learning when enacting, simulating or doing the real thing is involved 90% may be remembered after 2 weeks.

Always “why are we doing this?” or “what am I supposed to learn from this?”

More extensive labs with formal reports.  Students decide what equipment is needed from a selection provided. 

Team roles (10% of grade)

Hypothesis generation, student design of data collection, uncertanity considerations, building over semester,full, detailed reports by the end.
